Effect of organizational structure

Effect of organizational structure on organizational performance

A company's structure can either help or hinder productivity, depending on how well the supervisory relationships and work flow are managed (Murphy & Cleveland, 1995). It is through these that the organizational chart and chain of command are laid out. Managers in the reporting chain are responsible for creating goals and conducting regular performance reviews (Cullen et al., 2021). When it comes to aligning the success of an organization's employees, an increasing amount of attention is being paid to the role of organizational structure (Bhuiyan et al., 2020). Organizational structure and employee performance are examined here.

Organization Structure impact on organizational performance

It's possible that each node symbolizes an organizational role that reports to or supervises lower-level employees, based on the top-to-bottom flowchart. To determine who is accountable for monitoring and evaluating lower-level employees, the structure of an organization might help.

Employees who engage in collective decision-making procedures report higher levels of job satisfaction than those who do not. Organizational structure has an impact on employees in both positive and negative ways, depending on their position. This study provides the institution with the required information and helps the institution to improve its efforts to meet both present and future expectations (Cullen et al., 2021).

Employee performance is influenced by the organizational structure; a poorly structured structure results in low productivity, limited delegation of work, no provision of incentives, and centralized decision-making. Employees' attitudes about their jobs have an impact on their productivity, which in turn has an impact on their overall happiness at work (Hunter, 2020).
Improved performance and a greater feeling of purpose among employees who work in surroundings with solid organizational structures lead to an improvement in productivity for those who do so. Management must learn how to improve existing structures and concentrate on what they can include in them, or they must come up with a new organizational structure in order to ensure that employees are satisfied with their jobs (Hunter, 2002). Employees who are content with their jobs and work hard to achieve both their personal and professional goals, thereby accomplishing their personal and professional goals at the same time in a well-structured company (Hunter, 2002).

Conclusion

The organizational structure of a corporation has a considerable impact on its performance management systems and policies, as well as on its capacity to meet its performance objectives. If you understand how these two concepts interact, you can make performance management strategies for organizational structure more successful.

Traditional organizational structures tend to be more formalized, with employees grouped by function (such as finance or operations), region, or product line. Less traditional structures are more flexible and resilient, with the ability to respond quickly to changing business environments. (SHRM, 2021)
